Gain a qualification whilst interning abroad like sponsored marketing intern Lucy Wood
Hi, I’m Lucy and I’m currently completing my Sponsored Marketing Internship in Malaysia whilst studying for a qualification with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM).
As a biology graduate who fell into the world of marketing, this internship seemed the perfect opportunity to combine my passion for conservation with my experience in marketing. I’ve experienced the amazing Malaysian culture and met incredible people, whilst developing and applying my marketing skills for a great cause. Not to mention the stunning locations I’ve been able to visit and work in.
What made me choose this internship?
Ever since I can remember, I’ve been passionate about conservation. Whether that was putting up posters at my primary school about how to look after hedgehogs, or getting stuck into my monthly national geographic delivery. This influenced my decision to study biology at the University of Nottingham where I was able to widen my knowledge of conservation and sustainability theory.
Upon graduating I decided to take a year out to pursue my love of travel and so got the first job I could to save up. This is how I got in to marketing. After coming back from my trip, I’d enjoyed my job so much that I returned to marketing and worked for a further 2 years at the University of Leeds as a Sports Events and Communications Coordinator. As much as I loved the job, I couldn’t shake my desire for a career in conservation. So when I saw this chance to combine both, I couldn’t wait to get started.
What skills have I learnt?
I’m learning so much theory whilst studying for my Certificate in Professional Marketing with Cambridge Marketing College. From integrated communications, to digital marketing. The best thing for me though is been being able to apply it all. From upgrading our website, to boosting email marketing I’ve had the chance to develop so many essential marketing skills. Plus, being abroad and moving between projects is really encouraging me to think autonomously and self learn when required. Without a doubt this will benefit me for my future career.
What’s next?
The sponsored marketing internship in Malaysia has definitely improved my employability. I’m developing so many skills and I’m more confident as a result. I’m having such a fantastic experience, I’d love to continue to work in the field of conservation marketing. My dream job would be to go on and work for a charity or non-profit conservation company. Using my marketing skills to help raise awareness and educate others on important conservation issues.
Is the sponsored marketing internship in Malaysia for you?
If like me, you love wildlife conservation and are considering a career in marketing, this is the internship for you. You’ll gain skills and experience galore. Plus, if you love travel, you’d be silly to miss out on the chance to work in Malaysia!
